The role of the Accessibility Advisory Committee is to provide sound advice and recommendations to the Cobourg Municipal Council on matters relating to the goal of ensuring that individuals with disabilities shall be assured access to basic services generally available in the community.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee shall:

• review and advise the Cobourg Municipal Council on matters relating to the accessibility of municipal buildings, facilities, programs and services;
• review and provide input in a timely manner on site plans, draft plans of subdivision, and planning policies that may have an impact on accessibility;
• raise the profile of accessibility issues in the community and promote initiatives that support a universally accessible community;
  review current and proposed federal, provincial or municipal policies relating to accessibility;
• assist in the implementation and monitoring of general public awareness regarding accessibility;
• consult and co-operate with other agencies and organizations involved with accessibility issues.

The Committee meets on the third Wednesday of every month from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. via Zoom. When it is safe to resume in-person meetings, the Committee will meet in the Market Building, 55 King Street West, Cobourg. The location of the Market Building is behind Victoria Hall (to the South, near Albert Street).

The Accessibility Advisory Committee shall be comprised of up to six
(6) and no less than four (4) citizen appointments and a minimum of
one (1) Member of Council.

A quorum consisting of a majority of the members of the Committee is
required for a Committee meeting. Quorum will be based on the
number of active members appointed to the Committee.

All meetings shall be conducted in accordance with the Town of Cobourg Advisory Committees of Municipal Council Policies and Procedures and the Town of Cobourg's Procedural By-law. Meetings shall be open to the public except if the subject matter being considered is within a category defined in Section 239(2), (3) or (3.1) of the Municipal Act, in which case the meeting may be closed.

The Accessibility Advisory Committee shall report to the Municipal Council. Recommendations of the Committee are not final until approved by the Municipal Council unless delegated authority is granted by Council
